  Wiring-in a new NMEA2000 Backbone
Posted by: Pit - 27.03.2025, 08:06 PM - Forum: Technical - No Replies

For the new MFDs and digital radar system, a NMEA2000 Backbone cable needs to be wired across the boat!

OK, so let's take-down the ceiling of the port aft cabin:

Initially I did expect to make use of one of the cable tunnels, but I could't make it through.

  Too much sun!
Posted by: Pit - 27.03.2025, 07:57 PM - Forum: Technical - No Replies

A new year, a new summer!

But we are not ready, yet.
Sun protection is our core problem and here is Philipp's great solution:

.png   2muchSun.png (Size: 1,8 MB / Downloads: 7)

I really like his hardtop with the solar cells.
The fittings for the boom did vanish out of the cockpit. The bracket needs to withstand also that additional pressure.
Now the sun is off the cockpit and on the solar panels.

When it comes to long distance cruising, that's the solution!

We all like our good, cool friend:

Under 'Technical' I also have some info about a modification to increase RPM of the compressor.

  Fridge tuning
Posted by: Pit - 27.03.2025, 07:42 PM - Forum: Technical - No Replies

Most PS-48 have a BF35 compressor for the comfortable, large fridge.

Last Summer I experienced performance problems with the fridge.
I did assume the coolant pipes got leaky and I lost pressure in the system.
Luckily next day I had an expert with gas pressure equipment on bord and we tested the pressure OK, ditched it up with a refill and now the system is like new.

However, Philipp did supply me with some useful info about tuning the compressor:

From two PS-48 I know that they are not air cooled, but water cooled.
This is the heat exchanger, which must not be painted!

  Syphonium for WC inlet
Posted by: Pit - 27.03.2025, 07:25 PM - Forum: Technical - No Replies

I bought a submarine!

Both of my WCs are below the waterline and have valves on the inlet.
These valves need to be closed as water rinse in. Not much, but steadily and permanently.

If someone would forget to close the valve, which already happened twice to my wife, the disaster is not far.

I checked with my friend about his setup on an older PS. His installation is accurate with a syphonium.

I can't understand, why the wharf did ignore Jabsco installation instructions. -
This needs to be fixed ASAP!

  Hydraulic steering pump
Posted by: Pit - 27.03.2025, 07:15 PM - Forum: Technical - No Replies

I haven't seen my system myself.
When I bought my boat, everything was stuffed full in the compartments and I didn't sense all spots yet.

So here are some pictures of the hydraulic steering system.
Very clean & proper:

  Bilge Switch
Posted by: Pit - 27.03.2025, 07:08 PM - Forum: Technical - No Replies

I don't know, if I can trust my bilge switch.
My old boat had a simple swimmer switch, floating-up with the water and activating the bilge pump.

Like this one below:

.png   bilge switch1.png (Size: 1,15 MB / Downloads: 5)

My new boat has two pressure operated switches.
I read some concerns in US leisure ship and trawler forums.

The 'normal' switch with the swimming lever did his job for 30 years.
I need to test the pressure operated one and will report here about my findings.

  Cylinder head gasket blown
Posted by: Pit - 27.03.2025, 06:53 PM - Forum: Technical - No Replies

For everyone interested or also affected, here are some imagery and info about a sensitive part of our engine.

1st symptoms:

Engine runs OK up to ~1500U/min.
Overheating warning with 1800U/min.

Out of sudden air in the inner cooling circuit.

The mechanic confirmed 1st assumptions of a blown cylinder head gasket.

.png   zyloko3.png (Size: 2,24 MB / Downloads: 4)

.png   zyloko4.png (Size: 2,28 MB / Downloads: 4)

Cost of parts ~2700US$ and I understood price including work ~7000 USD.
That includes complete revision of the cylinder head. - That's a new engine!

New member - Wauquiez 40 Pilot Saloon
Posted by: HDrenth - 24.01.2025, 08:09 PM - Forum: Club house - Replies (1)

Hello fellow PS owners,

We are Henk and Sara and living in The Netherlands, we are the new lucky owners of a 40PS from 2002, hull #020. The boat is currently on the hard in Belgium and we are preparing here to be launched asap and bring her to our home port in Zeeland. We are exploring the Baltic, French and French coastal waters during the summers.

Our boat is in general acceptable condition. We consider to replace the teakdeck somewhere in the next 2-3 year with flexiteak. But I have to track down some leaks in various spots first  Wink

Looking forward to exchange experience with you all.

Kind regards,
Henk

Wauquiez Pilot Saloon 40 Test 2001

The Price Offensive

Keep quality, price down. With the new Wauquiez in the attractive 40ft size the French yacht aims for ambitious goals.

**The Trend Toward Deckhouse Remains Unbroken**

The trend toward deckhouses seems unbroken, with hardly a shipyard willing to forego models with raised structures in their product lineup above the 35-foot mark. While major series manufacturers have only embraced this trend in recent years, smaller operations have long upheld this tradition. This is also true for the Wauquiez shipyard in France, which, although now part of the Bénéteau Group alongside Jeanneau, Lagoon, and CNB, has managed to retain its unique characteristics within the group and in the market in general. Wauquiez builds ships with the so-called Pilot Saloon. This is not just a larger structure that allows more light into the ship but a raised saloon that offers a view outside even when seated. To accommodate the spacious panoramic seating area behind the mast, the ships are equipped with an aft cockpit...

++++
